Prepare for Holiday Guests of All Ages

The holiday season is coming and friends and family will be arriving soon to celebrate. Being the host of the party means more than preparing a great meal, you also have to plan for the safety of your guests. With grandparents, parents and children all under the same roof, there are simple steps you can take to keep guests of all ages safe in your home.

Consider the different ages and needs of the guests visiting your home. There are different steps you can take to protect older adults and children. If young children are visiting, lock your medicine, cleaning supplies, and all matches and lighters in a secure location. Pick up small objects, such as coins, jewelry and toys, that could cause choking. Install grab bars in tubs and showers and make sure stairways and hallways are well to protect all family members, especially older adults, from falls. Test and replace the batteries in all your smoke alarms. As your guests settle in, walk them through your family fire escape and point out the outside meeting place where everyone will meet if the alarm sounds.
