Safe Steps
Home Safety Council research shows that falls are the leading cause of home injury and related death, with an average of more than 5.1 million injuries and thousands of fatalities occurring in the home in each year. Additionally, adults over the age of 65 rank highest for home-related fall injuries and related deaths.
To help families, and especially older adults, minimize their risk of falling, the Home Safety Council launched Safe Steps, and awareness building initiative which encourages families to identify and correct potential falling hazards in and around the home.
Safe Steps 2004 will support new research and include targeted outreach to older adult communities.
