The 2008 Kids Prepare America winners, families, teachers and preparedness drawings

The Kids Prepare America, along with Freddie Flashlight, received a very special visitor outside of the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C. Brock Bierman, Director of the Community Preparedness Division, a component of the FEMA National Preparedness Directorate (NPD), spoke with all ten winners, their families and their teachers. Many thanks to Mr. Bierman for helping make the Kids Prepare America event such a huge success!

Home Safety Council Welcomes KPA Contestants to Capitol Hill
Last September, the Home Safety Council (HSC) launched the national Kids Prepare America Contest. The contest asked 3rd and 4th graders across America to take the lead in driving family preparedness efforts at home. To enter, each student designed a picture encouraging others to get ready in case an emergency happens.
Out of over 800 submissions, only Ten Grand Prize Winners were selected to travel to Washington, D.C. to attend the 2008 Salute to Home Safety Awards dinner. To help celebrate their great achievements, the Kids Prepare America winners met with and were congratulated by the Senators and Representatives from their home states.
