Policy Makers : Great Safety Adventure

With flashlights in hand, a class of children at Hillsdale Elementary shines light on some of the dangers in Rover the Home Safety Hound’s House.

Jessica Christopher, Constituent Liaison for United States Senator Robert F. Bennett, shows her spirit as Rover gives the camera a “thumbs up” for home safety.

Senator’s Staffer Helps Educate Children about Home Safety

“Everyone say it together now, Code Red Rover – Grown up Come Over!” a Safety Ranger at the Home Safety Council’s Great Safety Adventure (GSA) said to a group of kids at Hillsdale Elementary in West Valley City, Utah June 12.

Why is this saying so important when the home safety tour guides, our Safety Rangers, walk children through the Great Safety Adventure? Children are taught to say “Code Red Rover, Grown up Come Over” when they spot a danger during the tour. The phrase emphasizes the importance of children alerting a grown up in their home to fix the home dangers they find and NOT trying to fix the dangers themselves.

Helping the children of Hillsdale Elementary point out dangers during a tour of the GSA was Jessica Christopher, Constituent Liaison for United States Senator Robert F. Bennett. Christopher was one of almost 500 participants who toured the GSA and became one of the Home Safety Council’s newest Safety Rangers. Christopher, along with the GSA staff, teachers and children of Hillsdale Elementary continue to help make June a successful Home Safety Month.

The Home Safety Council (HSC) is the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing home related injuries that result in nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits on average each year. Through national programs, partnerships and the support of volunteers, HSC educates people of all ages to be safer in and around their homes. The Home Safety Council is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization located in Washington, DC.
