Utah Public Officials Turn Out in Numbers to Commemorate Home Safety Month 2007

Seeking awareness of Home Safety Month among a wider public policy audience, the Home Safety Council invited a number of local and municipal officials to join in the kick-off of Home Safety Month 2007. They did just that as Home Safety Month continued in Utah.

On March 30, Dennis Nordfelt, Mayor of West Valley City, UT, toured the GSA during a visit to Valley Crest Elementary. The following day, our Home Safety Rangers were happy to receive another special guest, Mayor Pro Tem of West Jordan, UT, Melissa Johnson. Johnson stopped by the GSA at Heartland Elementary on May 31.

In neighboring Midvale, our Safety Rangers at Cottonwood Heights Elementary were excited to meet with Mayor JoAnn B Seghini, who was accompanied by a number of Midvale Fire officials as she toured the exhibit. Seghini applauded the Home Safety Council and the Great Safety Adventure, adding that she strongly supports HSC’s efforts to increase awareness around home safety issues.

Entering its ninth year on the road, the exhibit has become one of the Home Safety Council’s flagship programs, reaching nearly 1 million children and caregivers since it launched in 1999.

The exhibit is also fast becoming a major draw for Members of Congress and their district staffers, with 10 staffer visits to the GSA this year alone.
