Home Safety Council is Proud to be a Part of the Department of Homeland Security’s Citizen Corps Affiliate Program
The Home Safety Council (HSC) is a proud partner of Citizen Corps, the Department of Homeland Security’s community-based initiative to provide local opportunities for everyone to participate in hometown security through public education and outreach on community and family preparedness, training opportunities, and volunteer programs to support local emergency responders. At the national level, HSC works with the Department of Homeland Security, the Citizen Corps programs, and the other Affiliate organizations to promote the mutual goal of public education and citizen participation and to help facilitate collaboration at the community level. The Citizen Corps Affiliate Program expands the resources and materials available to states and local communities by partnering with programs and organizations that offer resources for public education, outreach, and training; represent volunteers interested in helping to make their community safer; or offer volunteer service opportunities to support first responders, disaster relief activities, and community safety efforts. The Citizen Corps worked closely with the Home Safety Council during Home Safety Month to inform the public about the dangers of unintentional home injuries. During the month of June Citizen Corps alerted its entire national network of state, local, and tribal Citizen Corps Councils and affiliates about Home Safety Month and its goals. Citizen Corps also distributed home safety literature to communities around the country and alerted visitors to their website that June was Home Safety Month by prominently posting an alert that linked visitors to the HSC website.
