THE HOME SAFETY COUNCIL® ACCEPTS GIFT FROM TYCO FIRE & BUILDING PRODUCTS Company Gains Recognition as a Home Safety Council Keystone Sponsor
WASHINGTON, DC – The Home Safety Council (HSC) is pleased to announce that Tyco Fire & Building Products (TFBP) has made a generous contribution to support home fire safety education for people of all ages, becoming a 2006-2007 HSC Keystone Sponsor. TFBP is a leading manufacturer of water-based fire suppression system components and the creator of the Rapid Response™ Home Fire Sprinkler System, designed specifically for the home. “We are very pleased to join the Home Safety Council in its efforts to reduce home fire injuries and deaths across America,” said Carmine Schiavone, vice president of marketing and sales at TFBP. “We believe that home fire and burn safety starts with education. The Home Safety Council is working diligently and effectively to put high-quality teaching materials into the hands of local public safety educators at no cost, or very low cost. That’s an important cause and one we want to help advance.” “The Home Safety Council is grateful to Tyco Fire & Building Products for demonstrating its commitment to public safety education with this generous contribution,” said Home Safety Council President Meri-K Appy. “With Tyco’s help, we are able to reach more people with the vital information they need to stay safer from fire and burns at home, including building greater awareness of the lifesaving power of home fire sprinkler systems.” HSC is battling the home fire problem through dynamic partnerships that include TFBP and also with a suite of new fire safety educational tools designed for all ages. Weekly Reader facilitates free delivery of the new fire safety materials to preschool, elementary and middle school students, as well as to older adults in senior centers across the United States. Additionally, the Home Safety Council Expert Network serves as a free online resource for public safety educators. By working with TFBP and its other partners, HSC is able to offer a variety of print and video teaching tools on home safety topics through the Expert Network. With fire and burns among the top three causes of unintentional home fire injuries and deaths, the Home Safety Council has long been an active proponent of residential fire sprinkler protection. HSC is a proud member of the Steering Committee of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC), which serves nationally as a non-commercial fire sprinkler educational group. About the Home Safety Council The Home Safety Council (HSC) is the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing home-related injuries that result in nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits on average each year. Through national programs, partnerships and the support of volunteers, HSC educates people of all ages to be safer in and around their homes.
