THE HOME SAFETY COUNCIL® RECEIVES GENEROUS SPRINKLER INDUSTRY GIFT FROM THE NATIONAL FIRE SPRINKLER ASSOCIATION
WASHINGTON, DC – The Home Safety Council® (HSC) is pleased to announce that the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) is a 2007 Keystone Sponsor, supporting HSC’s national fire safety education outreach along with the Sprinkler Manufacturers Industry Fund. NFSA is a nonprofit international organization working toward widespread acceptance of competently installed and maintained automatic fire sprinkler systems in new and existing construction, from homes to high-rise buildings. “We are pleased to continue our partnership with the Home Safety Council in support of HSC’s efforts to reduce fire and burn injuries by raising awareness of the home fire safety options available,” said NFSA President John Viniello. “With this renewed sprinkler industry support, we hope to sustain the Council’s leadership in home fire and burn safety education, helping HSC develop and distribute high quality teaching tools for fire and life safety educators across the country.” The nonprofit Home Safety Council is the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing injuries at home. Fire and burns are among the three leading causes of unintentional home injury in the U.S., which combined result in nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits on average each year. Among the national programs HSC employs to reduce home fire injuries and deaths is the Home Safety Council’s Expert Network, a free online resource serving nearly 4,500 community safety educators with downloadable injury prevention educational materials. With the support of NFSA and its other partners, HSC is also able to offer a variety of outstanding print and video teaching tools on home safety topics to members of the Expert Network at little or no cost. “We are very grateful to the National Fire Sprinkler Association and the Sprinkler Manufacturers Industry Fund for their support and generous donations that help fund our education and outreach programs,” said Home Safety Council President Meri-K Appy. “It is essential for people in every corner of every community to understand both the risk of home fires and the life-saving benefits of home fire sprinkler systems. Thanks to NFSA, we’re able to help increase that knowledge nationally.” The Home Safety Council has long been an active proponent of residential fire sprinkler protection. Appy represents HSC on the Steering Committee of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC), which serves as a nonprofit and non-commercial fire sprinkler educational group. NFSA co-founded HFSC in 1996, along with the American Fire Sprinkler Association and the National Fire Protection Association. About the Home Safety Council The Home Safety Council (HSC) is the only national nonprofit organization solely dedicated to preventing home-related injuries that result in nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits on average each year.
