Receive Your FREE Copy of the new older adults fall-prevention video Safe Steps and companion lesson plans

When you join the Expert Network, you will receive a free VHS copy of the Home Safety Council’s new educational video “Safe Steps”. Produced in partnership with Lifetime Learning Systems and with funding from Lowe’s Companies, Inc. and its vendor partners, “Safe Steps” presents a comprehensive audio-visual educational experience to help older adults in your community avoid falls at home.

Read about other benefits of joining the Expert Network.

Older adults are particularly vulnerable to falls at home. People age 65 and older suffer the highest rates of fall-related deaths among all ages. These preventable injuries can have devastating effects on an older person and the people who love them, ranging from painful and expensive health issues to a compromise of independence.

Utilizing “Safe Steps” is especially effective for older adults, who have lower literacy levels than younger adults and may not be able to read printed safety messages. According to the U.S. Department of Education, only 68% of adults 75 and older said they had a high school diploma. Incorporate “Safe Steps” into your community public safety education outreach or provide it to an appropriate local agency working on behalf of the senior population.

The video is also a great resource for family caregivers of older adults as well. It is designed to help assess the risks and promote ways to prevent falls. The video offers low-cost solutions and simple behavioral changes to ensure personal safety and independence for older adults. Here’s what you will receive:

- “Safe Steps,” a 12-minute video designed to inform and inspire older adults on home safety and falls prevention - A director’s guide to support use of the video - Three reproducible activity panels to share with your audience - A reproducible announcement to draw your audience - A 17” x 22” wall poster - A survey and evaluation form

Free Lesson Plans and Activities designed specifically for use with the video by the Home Safety Council are available for download at no charge to you.
