May 2008:
The Home Safety Literacy Project

Summary:

Are your safety education programs missing members of the community who may need these lessons the most?

More than 93 million adults in the U.S., 40 percent of the adult population, have trouble reading in English. This presents a serious barrier to understanding the key fire protection and disaster preparedness measures that would help keep them and their families safe at home. The Home Safety Literacy Project is specially designed and evaluated to provide highly illustrated and easy-to-read fire safety and disaster preparedness education materials suitable for adults at all reading levels.
