Holiday Cooking Safety

With the holiday season upon us, it's time to dust off your seasonal recipes and start preparing them to enjoy with family and friends. Whether you're baking the yams or stuffing the turkey, remember to practice safe cooking habits while making your favorite holiday meals.

Cooking is the number one cause of home fire. The best way to prevent a kitchen fire is to always stay near the stove when you cook. Also, wear short sleeves or roll up your sleeves before you start to cook and move anything that can burn at least three feet away from the stove.

As members of your family gather in the kitchen to help prepare the meal, make sure someone keeps a close eye on the children. Teach kids to stay away from the stove and microwave. Put tape on the floor near the stove to mark a "no kid zone."
