Start Safe Webinar
HSC’s newest program – Start Safe: A Fire and Burn Safety Program for Preschoolers and their Families is a wonderful new resource for community education funded through a 2007 AFG Fire Prevention and Safety Grant through the FEMA/Grants Program Directorate.
The program includes classroom materials local fire departments can use to work hand-in-hand with preschool teachers and administrators to present in local Head Start or preschool/daycare classrooms for children ages 4 – 6. It also provides tools to educate those in the best position to keep young kids safe at home: their parents and caregivers! All program materials and resources are available in English and Spanish.
A DVD and materials to help children learn to recognize and stay away from hot things at home are also included in the program, as well as a special DVD for the fire service with guidance to help them improve their local program and related activities and presentations.
View the archived Start Safe Webinar to get an overview of the program, as well as best practices to help you use it with young children and families in your community. We also shared results and ideas from Expert Network members and early childhood educators who participated in a 12-week pilot test of Start Safe in 11 communities across the U.S.
