HOME SAFETY COUNCIL® AND TOYS“R”US, INC. PARTNER TO HELP PARENTS KEEP BABIES SAFE AT HOME

Parents and Caregivers Encouraged to Take a Room-by-Room Approach to Baby-Proofing Before Bringing Baby Home

The national, nonprofit Home Safety Council and Toys“R”Us announced a partnership to provide parents and caregivers with important tools and resources to help them create a safe home for their babies to grow. The Home Safety Council and Toys“R”Us are working together to educate new and expecting parents about the importance of creating a safe home to bring babies home to and nurture them.

While babies and toddlers are among the most vulnerable members of the family, a recent Home Safety Council survey revealed that 95 percent of parents took measures to baby-proof their homes, but an alarming 50 percent waited until their children were already crawling and able to get into dangerous situations on their own. To help parents understand the importance of baby-proofing even before bringing baby home, new expanded safety shops have been introduced in Babies“R”Us stores across the country.

“The Home Safety Council applauds Toys“R”Us leadership for putting safety items front and center in stores across America,” said Meri-K Appy, Home Safety Council president. “Helping parents and caregivers easily find what they need to protect their children from home injuries sends a clear message that safety should come first and safety products should be at the top of all shopping and gift lists.”

“Safety is, and always has been, our company’s highest priority, and this partnership with the Home Safety Council pairs safety expertise and baby product knowledge to help parents and caregivers create a safe home environment for their children,” said Jerry Storch, Chairman and CEO, Toys“R”Us, Inc. “We are pleased to join with the Home Safety Council in encouraging parents to make baby-proofing their homes a top priority.”

The Home Safety Council and Toys“R”Us collaborated to develop a new brochure with valuable tips to help parents take a room-by-room approach to baby-proofing the home. The brochure includes a checklist of recommended safety products and advice for sleep, crib and toy safety and is available in Babies“R”Us stores and online at toysrus.com/safety.
